just thought i would share this with you all as i just replaced my standard bulb with one of the new LED types, figured it would save on battery's and last longer as i seem to go threw a few by dropping the thing and the new ones are shock resistant. any how. skip the walmart cheap brand at $8 you cant see 10 feet with a 3 D-cell mag light and one of these bulbs. on the other hand the mag light version works great. it has a bright white light that can even be focused to reach out across my 3 acre lot no problem, good light at 100 yards even with battery's that were not doing so good with the old bulb and were due to be replaced. it dose have 2 draw backs to them though. 1st is the price $24  you can get a new mag light for that almost, so i'm hoping it has the life span it claims to so it will justify the $$ 2nd is its only going to fit in a mag light, the real ones not the imitation ones. the base of the bulb is to big to fit into my other flash lights it only fits into my 3&4 D-cell mag-lights. other than that i was really impressed with it.i know this is not welding related but i know a lot of you guys work out of your trucks well past the 5pm quitting time so i thought you might be interested in weather the new bulbs were any good as most of them are bright but don't have any reach to them. making them useless for any thing but finding the fuse box in the house. so for thous that have seen them and wondered if they were any good, if you have a real mag-light as i'm shore most of you do (they are great flash lights) there new bulb is really nice. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.

Reply:I bought one of the Mag-Lites with the LED bulbs too. I like it a lot. Too bad the spare bulb isn't an LED though!"Common sense is not very common"http://www.tahoekeyshome.com
Reply:I have a rechargeable Mag-Lite that I keep in my truck and it is super bright. I bought my wife one of the 3D 3 watt LED Mag's and it is almost the same as the rechargeable one. The LED has a tighter focus over a long distance, but when you change it to flood there is a huge hole in the center.I'd say worth the money if the battery life is correct. Just think if they came out with a 10 watt.
Reply:Good to know, as I am shopping around for some new flash lights. I had one of those 1 mil candle power Colemans, but the batteries took a dive.I Miss working out of my other truck. It has a roll bar with lots of lighting on it. Reply:some more good info i got when posting at the miller site,http://www.millermotorsports.com/mbo...0&goto=newpost summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:a few other options came up over there that might be werth a look if you are out shopping. i already had several mag lights with the standerd bulbs in them so i just added there LED bulb to my existing flash lights.one thing i know for shore is they are bright even when using low batterys as i put the led into a flash light that was due for new batterys and it was still verry bright like it had new batterys.this dose bring up the concern of no worning befor the batterys go?? or maybee not as i have not run it long enough for them to be dead to the LED but i'm wondering if i will have any warning of if it will just die ?? i know i have used the one with what i would call dead batterys for another 3 Hrs of run time scence i put in the LED bulb and it still looks like new batterys so i would suspect the 10X battery life to be true just wondering about warning for a change, guess i better keep some batterys on hand. well i do that any way here at the house but out on the road may be different ??i'll let ya know when this flash light goes dead if the light dims or just goes out, being as it started in almost dead state i might get there soon. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:The great thing about these small LED flashlights is that they fit in your vest pocket and are so handy to check your bead when you are in some back corner where the lighting is dim.  All the visiting welding inspectors have gone over to LED.  The batteries last longer and the lighting is better for bead inspection.  It will be a major lighting revolution when they become common for domestic lighting.  Reduction in heat will be a major power saving.
Reply:I like the lithium battery LED flashlights.  SureFires are at the top, but I have a couple of the off brands that are pretty good.  The only draw back is that the Lithium batteries are more expensive.BCN
Reply:i was looking around in the shue fire site and looks like they have a conversion kit to alow you to recharge a special battery for the flash lights. it requires a adapter that makes it a little longer though.lots of cool light options on that site but also big $$ spending the $30 for the lil mag for my belt and the $25 for the big ones was a strech as it was. i might try to come up with anothe $30 for one of the lil 2 AA battery ones for my shot gun, the shor fire ones are nicer but just too much $$. the sudden kick of fireing the shot gun tends to break the filliment in regular bulb little lights like my crafts man 2 AA version so its getting left in the tool box or glove box. probly the tool box. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
Reply:Surefire lights are too expensive and they're not as impact resistant as plastic lights.  I personally use Pelican brand lights.  They are relatively affordable, $25 for the 4AA model and $34 for a 3C model that is submersible.  These lights are also certified for use in explosive environments which may be a plus to a rig welder.  I've dropped mine 20 feet on to a steel deck and it still works great.  Just don't drop it with the bulb lit.  They do sell focused beam LED lights which are really nice, but I lose too many lights to afford one of those.
Reply:Surefire makes some nice lights, both incan and LED.  Their general market is upscale and/or tough and/or small.  A typical smaller Surefire (about the size of a MiniMag) can or will put out MORE light than a big typical 2D-4D Maglight.LEDs -can- more tougher and more impact-resistant than a bulb.  Right now, for lots-o-light, an incandescent bulb is still the way to go (without getting into more exotic things like HID or custom multi-LED lights).Mag's little LED replacement 'bulb' isn't all that bad, but it has some design trade-offs that serious flashlight users can notice and find better solutions to.  But better -usually- costs more.  How much 'better' do you want to spend?
