Do you weld both sides when possible? So if you are making a rectangle frame out of angle with miter corners, should you tack, weld one side, cool the part, then weld opposite side of same seam? Or should penetration be so good that it can't be improved and likely made worse?
Reply:Yes.I tack inside of each corner, weld from outside of each corner, flip and weld each corner from inside.I sometimes only weld one side if, say, 1/8" angle welded hot but this is where I see the most deformation.Just my methods and they are far from perfect as I don't do this every day.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Not always. If it's something structural, then yes weld both sides. Sometimes, if a weld will be in the way or if it's unneeded, then it'd be unnecessary to weld both sides because of time and cost.-Hillbilly
Reply:To piggyback, if your finished product will be painted or powder coated, then weld all around. Rust lines are never nice to look atTeach Ag Mech - Mike At Home:Lincoln Electric AC225Miller Challenger 172Gas AxeWork:eclectic bunch of 90's vintage blue boxes

Reply:Originally Posted by HT2-4956If you look at the master diagram of a welding symbol in AWS A2.4 (which shows you where all the different elements go) it shows that the "tail area" is where information on "process, specification or other reference" goes. Since single letters of the alphabet (or individual numbers) don't represent a "process" or "specification" they must be a "reference" to a note that should be found some where else on the drawing.http://www.me.metu.edu.tr/courses/me...eld_symbol.gif
