Has anyone attempted to build their own version on this kind of a setup. Or just in general any other contraptions to get a motorcycle into a pick-up truck box easily without the use of ramps?
Reply:FWIW,After watching the video (most of it), IMO there's way too many things to do, that if missed would end in disaster (Personal and property wise). Also, with many years of ramp loading an 800lb Lawnmower in the back of truck, I can't image trying it with bike.Loading a 250lb. motocross bike into the back of a pickup is one thing, but a street machine very different.Hope this helps, and yes, we've all managed to dump our dirt bike while loading, but that's OKPete
Reply:So now you converted your truck into a bike recovery vehicle and rendered the bed useless unless grocery shopping  2 guys a a 2x12 and any 2 divets that meet together for the straightest route possible is all I ever used for a long time. And pull your pants up before somebody parks there bicycle in there  nice design if you were a dedicated recovery business tho I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:A friend of mine, just mounted the rack for the front wheel of the motorcycle to fit in to the deck of his trailer, then welded on the tie down points where he needed them. Seems to be a quick, easy, and secure what of transporting his bike. Deck of trailer is only 19 inches off ground and the rear lip of trailer is sometimes even closer than that to the ground so ramp isn't a big issue.Qualified & experienced at welding scrap metal
Reply:I'm too impatient for that thing and I'd rather put my $$$$ somewhere else.I used to use two 2x8s and me, if I was feeling frisky I'd use one 2x8 and ride it up  .
Reply:Man, that thing is $2900.For $700 at Tractor Supply, you could get a 5' x 8' trailer with a ramp gate.  $200 for a hitch, $100 to register the trailer, $50 for drawbar/ball/locks, and $70 for the fancy chock from Harbor Freight with the tie-down points built in.  So for less than $1200, you could have something that you could just ride the bike on and off of (much faster) and you'd have the trailer to use for other things.

Reply:I think it's a pretty slick setup. That being said I will agree you lose alot of bed space unless it's easy to take out.The price is way to much for me.I bought my 6'4"x10' trailer for 1,200 brand new.  Still have not registered it (not big enough to have to)Having 3 trailers one being a shed for the most part and one a car trailer for the most part.I would say buy a trailer. If space is limited I would go with several ramps so you could have your feet on the "ground"

Reply:I'm sure you could make something, but like others said it takes away from the bed if you aren't going to take it out every time. Looks like too much work to me. If I can, I "borrow" someones loading dock or at least find a hill to make it easier and use aluminum ramps with a strap connected to the bumper.
Reply:I have 10' long ramps and I ride my bikes (I put 2 in the bed of my Ram) at a time.  Track days rock!BenHarbor Freight Inverter 130 amp DC stick/tig (sold, really!)Lincoln Square Wave Tig 175 AC/DC stick/Tig
Reply:Trailers are simple, cheap, and leave the bed free for other stuff.
Reply:Squirmy, watched that video this morning and am still laughing my a$$ off
Reply:yeah, i was just gonna have some time in the shop so was thinking about trying something like that but one that could be taken out easily. That all being said maybe ill just throw some ramps together and do that. 10' ones should make for a pretty shallow angle, would be ok. first time i loaded it up I used a set of quadrramps that were only about 4 1/2' long lol. Was pretty sketchy.
Reply:I agree with almost everybody here, WAY to expensive, takes to long, takes up the bed, .... why not just ride the bike, thats why one would buy a MC anyway.....
Reply:Uhaul rents a ramp trailer ment for motorcycles for 14.95 a day and its a couple bucks more you can get there insurance that will cover your bike and any liability if anything happens. For the rare occasion my bike goes in my truck thats the only way I will do it.
Reply:thisd doesn't follow the "KISS" theory at all. The sign of a good engineer is not how complicated their designs are. It's how simple they are. that is WAY to overly complicated. and WAY to much money for what your get. I suggest a ramp that's long enough to have a mild approach angle, and wide enough that you can put your feet down to brace on it as you're going slowly up it.There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:No joke, my dad used to ride his '74 Honda SL 350 up a 7' long piece of 4"channel and he is not a "natural" bike rider. In fact, he failed his motorcycle endorsement test ride by 1 point and when the tester seen him ride it up the channel he decided to give it to him anyway.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"
