I found some 18 GA SS laying around in my shop. It has a brushed finish, and has a peel able back that says laserguard for laser cutting on the peel part. I am gonna use this to practice for a weld test coming up as its the right gauge. What filler should I use 309, not sure what grade it is. And with the brushed finish affect anything as I am sure its polished. Should I take a flap disc to it after acetoning it? Or should I even acetone it and just weld it like it is.Last edited by smilexelectric; 09-13-2014 at 01:56 PM.Miller Maxstar 200 SDPiperliner #10 Gold
Reply:It is most likely 304, and if it is just for practice it doesn't matter much anyway. 309 will work if that's what you have; 308 is the right filler for 304 and is a bit cheaper than 309.It would be a good idea to clean the sheet on the side with the Laserguard film after you peel it off, in case there is a residue from the film.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps |
