I'm thinking of starting a club for welders... any thought or ideas, any input could be helpful..."How many welders does it take to screw in a light bulb?"None, welders aren't afraid of the dark.
Reply:You have to give us a reason to go to a club meeting after a 16hr day, instead of going home to our ladies.Measure with a micrometre, mark with chalk,  cut with a torch.Never force anything...just get a bigger hammer.RoyOld Airco buzz box approx 1974Lincoln mig pack 15Lincoln 175 square wave1954 9" south bend lathe

Reply:Are you sure you are on the same forum I am?  I can name so many here that really don't fit the description of "classy".And NO you two ( you know who you are) No picts of guys in chaps or thongs... .No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:While I don't do welding for a living, I'd be interested in meeting with guys in the local area to practice welding.I want: - The meetings at a garage big enough to let a few guys work at the same time, without getting in each other's way. - A shop with either a couple of decent welders (the machines) in MIG, TIG, stick and Oxy-Acetylene. - A couple of guys in the club who have a fair amount of experience and don't mind helping others out. - You would pretty much have to make it open to guys who don't know how to weld yet. - You would probably want to have a couple of standard club projects (a small welding table and a welding cart), so these new guys can actually work on a project. - You'd want to have a small stock of steel, so guys without trucks wouldn't have to go pick up their own (sell kits at just over cost for the 'standard' club projects). - A fridge for drinks, once the hoods are up for the night. - Allow folks to bring their own projects in, if they are having problems. - you are probably going to have to figure out a basic fee of some sort to offset the cost of consumables. - You are probably going to need to have a small stock of used gear (helmets, leather aprons, gloves, safety glasses, etc.) for those new folks to use, until they decide they like welding enough to get their own.The biggest problem I see, is that 'everyone is going to want to weld at the same time...' and there aren't many home shops with that sort of power available.  The next biggest problem is noise...and annoying the neighbors once a week.If you are a 'natural host,' this is going to be fun.  If you 'just want to weld,' then you are going to need to find some guys willing to put in time to 'make things run.'  You are going to have to be pretty rigid with, 'leave the shop in the same condition you found it,' or you are going to spend hours cleaning up, after everyone ducks out as soon as they have done what they wanted to do tonight.Overall, though, I think it can work.  It is, however, going to take 'work' to make it happen.KevLast edited by Machine_Punk; 09-16-2014 at 12:13 AM.Kevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:We do have the Weld-o-rama's here.    I set one up via meetup.com when I lived in Colorado..   kinda fizzled out as no one else really wanted to put any effort into it and out cost money to maintain the group on Meetup   Facebook might be a way to go also.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
