Reply:I ran another pass on the one with a hole in the end. I think that one was overhead, passed an x ray test. I find that if I move the arc side to side at the end and dip the rod it gets rid of it.

Reply:Originally Posted by shovelonYour instructor let you run another pass? Did you remove the prior weld? Your welds look fantastic by the way.
Reply:Originally Posted by gweahI didn't have an instructor on any of these, they are just welded and submitted to be tested. I did grind it off before I welded again.
Reply:I've got the papers, I don't feel like looking through and finding it though. It's military standard, I don't want to say the wrong one, it's for the navy. The testing is done by a private company called inspec testing. Other than that the only places I know of do AWS that's it.

Reply:I am surprised no one asked for the details yet?Very nice welds OP! Whats the material thickness, filler, and settings if you don't mind sharing?
Reply:All the aluminum is 10 GA. The steel is 3/8", Filler used for the steel was 309 for carbon steel to stainless, and 316 for stainless. Aluminum filler was 5086, and for all the final passes on steel I ran about 130 amps, 1/8 thoriated tungsten, 30 cfh 100% argon. Aluminum I ran about 140 amps, 250hz, 60 percent AC balance, 1/8 lanthinated tungsten, 20 cfh 100% argon. This was on done using a Miller Dynasty 350DX

Reply:Size 11. I used so much gas because the torch I was using had no gas lense, wasn't getting good gas coverage. |
