Ok, here's the story in a nut shell. My father owns a bodyshop and his partner's nephew stopped in last week. He asked my dad if he would be interested in buying some tools (his Uncle, my father's partner, died last year). He owned a pizza shop for over 30 years and also owned the property which is just outside of Philadelphia. About eight months ago he decided he had enough of the pizza business (which sucks because he had an AWAESOME product) so decided to close the shop and rent the property to someone else. Some guy bit on the offer quickly due to the location and was in the midst of renovating the shop into a seafood place.About two months into the renovations the guy apparently disappeared off the face of the earth. The owner of the property couldn't get a hold of him. He sent certified letter after letter to the guy as well as a plethora of phone calls and even certified letters from his lawyer. Still nothing. So he went through the eviction process and won the case when the tennant never showed up and legally assumed ownership of the tools. Now here's where the welder comes into play. Like stated earlier he was doing renovations to turn it into a seafood store, and was using the welder to construct a stanless steel hood for the kitchen area. He had a ton of hand tools, power tools and just about everything you need to do a pretty big renovation job. The property owner got a contractor to buy all the tools with the exception of the Miller XMT welder which is ironicaly the only thing I wanted. We got to a price of $500.I've definitely seen them for more $$ on the web, and I'm getting a multi-process unit to boot. My question to you experts.....will the welder be capable of adding a Mig attachment? I couldn't really read the dial display since the shop didn't have power and he had all the windows papered over. I'm really a newbie in the Tig and stick department, but I know it definitely does both types. It currently only comes with the stick attachments since that's what they were using to weld the hood together. Though I'll have to buy a Tig torch and Mig assembly (if possible) I think it's worth it. Any advice? It's a Miller XMT 304 CC/CV unit. Not in perfect shape, but I was told it works as it should, but I'm going to test it one day next week when he brings it to my dad's bodyshop. I'm bringing a good friend of mine who is a welder by trade and has used these in the past, but the more info I have the better. When did these machines come out? I don't think it had a digital display like others I've seen on the web, but again it was extremely dark inside the building.Last edited by toomanytoyzz; 12-07-2012 at 07:51 PM.

Reply:Originally Posted by DSWI'm a bit surprised for a SS hood they were doing stick and not tig. Sounds like a real hack. The XMT is also an excellent stick machine as well as a great tig and mig. I don't have $500 to spare right now, but if someone offered me an XMT304 CC/CV for $500, I'd find the money even if it meant carrying a balance on my card for a few months. Sweet deal.
Reply:This is a no brainer, go pick it up asap. For that money you can't go wrong assuming it works. Reply:I agree that is a great machine and a great price. I did not see anyone mention it, so just so you know what you are getting, it does DC tig only, no AC tig. A good wire feeder will likely cost more than you are paying for the machine, but for $500.00 it is still a great deal.I would grab it.
Reply:Buy it now.If you're unhappy with it and it works, I'll give you $600 plus shipping for it. Or if you ever wanna upgrade.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I have welded with the xmt304 a fair bit. It is an excellent pipe welder. Runs 6010 very well. Great dc tig welder too. I like the lift start mode.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720 |
