I was playing around this afternoon on some stainless scrap, and had a funny idea! anybody feel like playing around with who could come up with the coolest welded up belt buckle? I thought of this having a few beers and screwing off and remembered the box thread. I'll jump in first but trust me it wont be my last  Anybody up for some fun? Reply:I'd buy one of those. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:First off these are not my work.  One of my students dad is a pipefitter in our paper mill and they make these as kind of a right of passage.  They are all stainless tig welded from the back and then ground and polished in the front side.  I think they are pretty amazing. Attached Images
Reply:Damn, those are BAD *** !!  from what I can tell they're small shavings of round, square tubing, maybe some angle or are they hand formed beads ??I have been wanting to make a derringer belt buckle for a while.... I think the time has come ...Last edited by DemonSpeeder; 03-05-2013 at 11:21 PM.Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st
Reply:Those are super cool ifalls!!!I welded a pair of 3/4" nuts to a belt buckle sized plate of 10ga. as a gift for my friend Mike. Dunno if I got the idea from someone here or else where (senility is cruel) or on my own. That way he could catch people "looking at" or "admiring" his big nuts. People get a kick out of it. I'm thinking of making myself one with 1.5-2 inch jam nuts and putting them on a big "turkey platter" belt buckle.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:Does this count? Friend of mine is a Mason.  Also kinda likes to have a beer where they have "dancers".  I made him this Mason buckle with a pole on it and instead of the actual "G", I put a copper g-string... No offense to any Masons intended. You can tell which is the actual Mason symbol and which is the buckle I made... Reply:Here's mine, not completely welded, but some welds..spider gear in a piece of stainless pipe with stainless wire for the hook and to hold the belt. Attached Images
Reply:Neat stuff!Anyone ever make little compartments in their buckles for extra emergency cash or something?

Reply:Mick, that is amazing. Any idea how old it is ?  Those silver dollars gotta be worth a couple of bucks. Thanks for sharing.

Reply:That way I can use the band saw and get more than one, its a lot of work to cut each piece, it also helps to get the pieces straight,... And absorbs the heat better when I tig the endsUA local 32Team weld-coolTeam miller elite tack upMiller pro-staff

Reply:I haven't experienced any blade breakage, but you could make the slugs 2" long to be safe, I tack the slug to a piece of stainless angle to keep everything straight in the saw,UA local 32Team weld-coolTeam miller elite tack upMiller pro-staff
Reply:Oh, just make sure if your using a coolant on the saw that you blow the slug out really well before you weld up the slug again, or all hell will break loose when you try to seal it upUA local 32Team weld-coolTeam miller elite tack upMiller pro-staff
Reply:And another completed today. This one was cut on a 45.. No one else has any? UA local 32Team weld-coolTeam miller elite tack upMiller pro-staff
Reply:Damn that's sweet!!! ind if I borrow the idea? Combinations of copper and bronze and SS would be cool. Different shape stock too! 200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
