Anyone use the "Hot Start" mode on their TA 185 in the TIG mode ???
Reply:I never noticed it working in the tig mode but I just keep it off/down all the way. You do have hot start built into the foot pedal though.

Reply:I use it. Generally set it to 20 amps for aluminum. Gives you a increased burst when you first hit the pedal, helps with getting a fast puddle. You could probably just weld with a higher amp setting, but then pedal movement will cause a wider swing in amps and less control.Last edited by Drf255; 12-23-2012 at 07:28 AM.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:Zapster uses hot start with his TIG. I have not needed it myself though hot start is awesome for stick welding... works really well if u ever have to use Aluminum stick electrodes...Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:I have an older TA LT-300 (mid 90s DC inverter) I use the hot start function with tig because i use a torch switch in leiu of a foot pedal. I make a lot of short tacks using 2t function on s/s sheet metal and I like to move quickly to aviod heat distortion/discoloration. I noticed I was able to establish a puddle more quickly and noticed a much more consistant heat signature on the back side. Also seems to help with higher amp starts with larger dia tungstens, but I have much less exp with that. As stated above the pedal overrides the hot start. -Rob |
