Reply:Are you doing some kind of experiment to test the differences in responses you get when you post using kooky capitalization vs being normal? It is more the control the regulators have, the control the knobs have, the sizes of tips and the condition of the passages than the brand. Victor smith and harris all have different sized combination sets. and in most cases don't come with many sized tips. That size hose is pobably below what is recomended for cutting though it will work for smaller nozzles. How the stuff fits in your hand or hands might be of some amount of importance. More so with cutting torches or handles with cutting attachments. How much effort have you spent searching out similar existing threads on here?
Reply:thanks for the advice should get a bigger size a hose i know this depends on tip size
Reply:Check your local welding dealers and see what brands they carry, and what tips are available from them. Except for Harbor Freight, any brand you listed will be a good choice. If your friend's Victor set is in good shape, it would be a good deal.

Reply:1st - the set your friend has, is it for Oxy-Propane? It's been my understanding that the Hoses and Regulators are different to handle the Liquid-Propane Gas2nd - propane set-ups use more Oxy than a Acetylene Set-up doesplease correct me if I'm incorrect

Reply:I was taught that the only reason to use acetylene is to weld. And that is because acetylene is the only fuel gas which doesn't inject lots of free hydrogen into the weld pool, causing hydrogen embrittlement.I use propane for cutting and love it. I also use it for heating, or for brazing, etc. It's much much cheaper than acetylene. I do use grade T hose, suitable for all fuel gases. 99% of torch hose out there is grade R, only rated for acetylene. Can you get away with using grade R on propane for awhile? Sure.3/16" hose is small. But it would be good to have a short piece that you can coil up and put inside a little toolbox with a small set of regulators and a small torch setup and use it for HVAC work, for example. For any big heating operation you need to know what you're doing and have big regulators, big hose, big torch handle and of course a big rosebud tip.metalmagpie

Reply:I just switched to chemtane 2 from acetylene, and I would never go back it is so much better. heats, cuts, and brazes with such ease. Even though its only marginally hotter then acetylene it does definitely heat much faster. It Burns so much cleaner, and much more efficiently. My acetylene tank is a 143 cubic feet cost about $90ish to fill. My chemtane tank is a 100lbs tank and holds about 883 cubic feet of gas but burns hotter, and holds more btus gives about 2100 cubic feet of acetylene equivalence costs only $175 to fill. Also Victor is what i would go for its what i have currently i also have a Harris but its a piece of junk.miller xmt 304 w/ 22a feederdynasty 200dx tig runnerspeedglas 9100xvictor journeymen O/Aesab shadow 5000 shape cutterClausing Drill Press setAVIA d.r.o. milling machine ercolina ercobender 76baileigh hsp-66mJD2 notchmaster |
