VRC Setting On TA 185 ???

What exactly does the VRD setting on a TA 185 do???The manual says it is "ON" when in TIG mode. The "ON" light never comes on in TIG mode. When I switch to stick mode the "OFF" light on the VRD comes on.Is something wrong here???
Reply:"VRD" stands for "Voltage Reduction Device". It is a safety feature which reduces the open-circuit voltage of the welder to reduce the danger of electric shock. It only applies to stick welding which is why the light only comes on in stick mode. In the real world it is a PITA, it makes the arc harder to start, especially on restrikes.On most welders it is an option that can be turned on or off. Reply:I would get two short pieces of electrical tape and cover up that upper left hand corner of the display and forget about it. The VRD is a safety feature that cannot be adjusted.  This safety feature your not going to notice, it works seamlessly.

Reply:I talked to a tech at Thermal Arc yesterday. The VRD on the TA185 is disabled from the factory.I know this VRD isn't a big thing......I just like to know the full ins and outs of settings on a machine !!!Thanx to all who chimed in !!!
