flux core mig.

Ok so I finished up on stick welding (at least plate anyway) and now come jan 22 I will be in intro to mig and then after that plate testing with mig. This semester I will be mig welding mild steel with solid and flux core wire but the flux core also uses shielding gas. I will also be mig welding aluminium. So my question is: this flux core with sheilding gas, can it be ran on any mig? Or does it need a special machine? In trrms of strength is I comparable to 7018? Can you just run regular flux core wire with mix gas and get the same results? Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated! !!

Reply:You'll need serrated drive rolls for flux core. Some flux core wires run best on straight CO2, others can be run on C-25.
