New guy with a Lincoln 3200HD

I work at a pawn shop and just got a great deal on my first welder. It a Lincoln 3200HD with a regulator and tank included, I got it for $190 with tax. I want to learn to weld so i can get to work on my project car (1980 Jetta).  I need some advice and guidance. I need this welder to weld floor pans, shave my engine bay, and rust repair. The welder came with .035 flux wire. I had some questions.1. Is this wire acceptable?2. What mix do I need in the tank?3. Are there any sort practice welds or techniques I can do before tackling my car?Thanks in advance guys,Sean

Reply:I have a few panels laying around. I ordered .023 wire and will have the tank filled with 75/25 on thursday. I cant wait to get practicing!!!!You guys have been super helpful!!Lincoln 3200HDNo Welding Experience.....NONE
Reply:Don't forget to reverse the drive roll for 023 wire. the large groove is for 035 and 030 wire.our welder will burn 023 and 030 hard wire plus 030 and 035  flux core  wires.When welding make sure use connect to at least a 20 amp circuit. and use large gauge extension cords.
Reply:You need a smaller tip for good contact and possibly a smaller hose liner. But try it in the larger liner with the proper tip first. Might work fine. .025 tip works fine with .023 wire. If you use a big or worn out tip, your welds will suffer.__________________
Reply:Always make sure your tip is the right size for your wire. Worn and to large tips will cause the wire to arc inside the liner. Then you will have to replace the liner because the wire is sticking and not feeding right.Large liners will feed small wire ok. BUT 023 wire in a 045 liner will allow the wire to move on its own, back and forth while welding. May or may not be a problem for the weld being done. You will want a smaller liner if you need tight control of where the arc is. (Small bead width on sheet metal). I think Lincoln is selling only 2 liners for your gun, a small 023-030 and large 030-045.
