Hey guys,Finally got some time to post this series. There will be 3 posts as there are 12 photos and only 5 allowed per post. The last post will describe the parameters on length and options one can render if necessary. The photo number will describe the setup.Photo 1: Vise set to 45deg.....note the measurement from the vise swivel to the screw block=2".Photo 2: Frontal view with support bracket in place to rigidize tube to avoid the tube spinning on initial cut.Photo 3: Vise jaw opened further to a setting of 1" to swivel. The angle is now changed to 30deg.Photo 4: View showing the re-positioning of the support bracket.Photo 5: Vise jaw all the way back. Angle now changed to an acute 20deg.. Note the location of the support bracket. Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:2nd series.....Photo 6: Simple support bracket using a piece of 1 1/2" sq. tubing 4" long & slotted for 1/8" X 1 1/2" depth. This slot allows the bracket to slide anywhere on the table surface. The bottom has a 5/16" nut welded to lock into location on the table. Vertical plate is a 1 1/4"W X 1/4"T X 3"L.Photo 7: Position can be located anywhere on the table.Photo 8: These are 3 cuts...1st = 45deg.; 2nd = 30deg.; 3rd = 20deg. Note the length of the openings.Photo 9: Here the 1st side is cut at 20 deg.Photo 10: Here the 2nd side is positioned and cut. Notice the black weld seam... it is used as a position locater for both cuts to be parallel. Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:3rd series...Photo 11: Finished piece.Photo 12: Side view of support bracket...Bolt is a simple carriage bolt with a 3/8 X 2" piece of rod welded to the top of the bolt to tighten in position.Final notes: The shortest piece of tubing that can be cut with this setup is 18". Shorter can be done, but an additional clamp has to be used to clamp the tube to the rear vise jaw for support. An even more acute angle can be achieved by moving the position of the front jaw to a lesser angle than the set 90deg. Personally, I have never had occasion to cut a more acute angle than 20deg.. The best results will be obtained by holding the tube firmly, allow gentle pressure on the blade on the initial cut to allow the teeth to maintain a straight cut. It takes some practice, but very easy to do once you learn the technique. I'll answer any questions if I can, and hope some of you can use this method to cut angles......Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Ok Denny.I've been looking forward to this post. I have a couple of problems though.Most...Some...(well one of us anyway)don't have a fancy chop saw that has the heavy duty back to the vice for a good solid prop. Plus... your setup requires a plate of steel for a mount to the saw which is what your front prop clamps to. I don't have that either.I'm going to need you to resubmit this article with the above mentioned modifications circumvented and adjusted to fit my POS import saw. (Specs not included)MmmmmmmmmmmmBeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrGooooooooooo  oodddd!!!!
Reply:Just thought I'd tell you i have a yorkie too. She is the best. One of those dogs that does nothing but love everyone. Spirited, happy, thinks she's 200lbs. I know this has nothing to do with the post, but owning a yorkie is like owning a harley. If you aint got one- you don't understand. You only need to be 2% smarter than what you are working on.Lincoln pm140hacksawa big hammer
