Welded Chain Project

One night while half asleep/awake i knocked the lamp off the bedside table. It broke on impact with the floor. I made my own replacement that is not likely to break, if it does, I will just weld it back together. The first one was not a good candidate for welding. The base was formed around a piece of pipe, then I wrapped the rest around a 2x2 and welded. All this with my MM140 and fluxcore wire. The base wasn't big enough to be stable after welding so I added the 1/4" rod to make a wider more stable base. I reused the working parts of the first lamp to wire this up. I threaded the cord thru every other link and then painted it.This should be a much safer welded chain project than something like motorcycle handlebars. Attached Images

Reply:Neat ! good idea. There was a post I saw of a chain single wine bottle holder. Pretty slick. Actually I was thinking of using chain to make a rattle snake garden art. Have you done any other chain projects ???
Reply:No, this was a first for using chain. I was thinking of using some to make a small table maybe. Just use heavier chain for the legs/feet and frame. I'm open for things to make with this stuff though. Shows a possibility for what 120V MIGs can do, even if it can't make trailers or hitches, and more than just sheet metal.I have a piece of roller chain 3' or so long that I was thinking of something to use it for, but it looks to be stainless, and I don't want to buy a roll of stainless wire and gas just to weld this into something. Reply:STAINLESS???  Now you have a reason to buy a TIG MACHINE!!! Actually, if you get  a 180SD or 200 syncro by MILLER you would have stick too  !!!!

Reply:Not a bad idea. Make a couple more for the pirates to scoop up ($) at a bike swap meet & greet. Maybe 2 more vert arms to hold a beer or 2.

Reply:NICE SETUP  !!!!  I remember seeing your BOBCAT set up on another post. Neat. I just finished a running gear for my TRAILBLAZER to  keep in garage . I got a cheap 25.00 partial boat trailer frame ,axle , wheels, and springs that I gonna modify so I can drop the trailblazer and running gear into it road use or field farm repair. MILLER BLUE
