Heres what i do by day. Large fab shop in south louisiana that does a lot of work for the plants throughout the gulf coast region. Here is a practice coupon on 6in sch 40. Sorry its not perfect, i was trying a few new techniques. Was welded in the 5g position. Bottom half: rod was fed throught the pipe, but i was looking in the bevel from about the 4 o clock position so i could se my rod dipping in the puddle, and still see the tip of my tungsten. Top half i walked the cup. And fill and cap was walked all the way around. 1/8 in er70s2 was used all the way out. Reply:I'm practicing 5-6g myself and I'm no pro, with that said your root doesn't look too bad other than a couple spots that you already know off... for the bottom if your rod looses contact hold on for a second and let the filler flow back in with the root so you don't get those higher built up spots... for the sides and the top part you really need to move, unless your gap has closed up on you move faster and try to work the torch between the toes or the bevels and spend less time in the middle of the root, also don't push as much as you would on the bottom or lower sides...your cap looks pretty good...Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st
