Hey guys, In another thread we were talking about mileage in our trucks. It got me to scrolling through my truck project that is sitting in my driveway right now. I started this project years ago. I have been stalled for a while. But I went and put new batteries in it last weekend and fired it up. There really was some welding on this truck. Brief history...The truck belonged to a Marine that used it for camping. It was completely set up for a slide in camper. It had 4 batteries and 3 gas tanks. I stripped out about 300 pounds of metal he had used to make brackets and bumper extensions and all kinds of stuff. Then I had to grind down all his crappy welds. Then I had to weld up all the cuts he made in the frame to fit what it was he wanted on it. Trust me, it was hillbilly central. I took it a different direction. I had so much of this thing powdercoated. What a waste of money. But I had some back then. Not now.Anyways, I was happy with what I had gotten done so far and thought I would post up some pics that made me smile again.I stripped it down to the bare frame. I sat and air chiseled off all the factory rivets holding on the brackets. Reply:Great project. Hope you can get back on it. More pictures!
Reply:It is a a DANA rear end. Not just any old Dana, but a DANA 70HD. Full floater. The HD had a thicker ring gear than the regular Dana 70. How do I know that? Cuz I tore it apart and changed the gears and learned it. Went from 4.11s to 3.73s. The truck is a 1982 Chevy 1 Ton Crew Cab Dually. It had a 6.2Liter diesel dawg. It was going to cost so much to rebuild the 6.2 and the 6.5 turbo was crazy priced that I just decided to go gasoline on it.If I ever do another engine swap in this truck down the road, it will be a 5.9liter Cummins.I also dumped the front end and installed a 1991 Chevy Suburban front end because the grill and headlights are way cooler, imho.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
