Here is a thread for people post their favorite tool to hate, and why.My favorite tool to hate is a die grinder with a the steel grinding bits.  I hate them because they send millions of steel splinters flying all over me.  In my clothes, my skin, my EYES.  It seems all day long I am picking steel splinters out of my skin.  Even weeks after I used the tool.  They get stuck INSIDE my welding gloves and pop up at random at the worst time like in the middle of a very long, difficult weld that cannot be accessed to cut out and fix.
Reply:If you hate that, what are you thoughts on an airarc???                                MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:wear saftey glasses? They are also usually some kind of tungsten/carbide bits, steel ones would wear FAST.We have some air powered belt sanders which have a few years on them new, and the belts constantly pop off no matter what you do or how you are using it.    Ive had an urge to throw them a few times but unfortunatly I cant really break them.Have we all gone mad?

Reply:I hate my safety glasses, yet I love them. They keep all the crap out, but crap comes under them and bounces in.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:I hate my safety glasses and face shield...not because they don't perform well, but because every time I pick up a grinder or go to the grinding wheel, they run off and hide where I can't find them.  Another tool I hate is my cheap wal-mart adjustable wrench...every time I need a wrench, it seems to be RIGHT THERE...I seem to always try that crappy wrench first, THEN I go get the wrench that has a chance of actually working.
Reply:Exothermic torch torch...i've heard of those.  Can you give some details about it?  I know firefighters use it to get into ships that are burning because it can cut a man sized hole in seconds and then be used to drain all the water out that they spray in, but I have no idea how it works.

Reply:I hate wire stripping wheels on my 4/5" grinders. Little steel needles stuck in you, all over, like you got into a fight with an iron porcupine. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:Originally Posted by WelderBoyEver used a die grinder?  It's like what you just said, but X1,000,000.  In fact I have yet to be pricked with a piece of wire from a wire wheel, but those die grinders get me EVERY time.  It just SPRAYS metal shavings that are needle sharp on both ends and resemble a double-ended bee stinger minus the venom sack..

Reply:The 1/32 cut-offs will and do explode, great little wheels but can be very touchy.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT

Reply:Can't argue with any of that.  Full leather coat and chaps for the wire wheels.  I've had those wires go right through my shirt into my belly    I use an air die grinder..... and I don't like using it that much either.      One tool I love to hate, my Victor cutting torch on steel plate.  I use the heavy welding gloves, and I always burn my little finger and bugger up the glove so bad that you can't get them on again.  Guess I should try a long barrel torch....Lincoln 225 AC/DC, Hobart 140 Mig. Oxy/propane Victor torch.(2) Makita 5" angle grinders  one with zip disk, 14" chop saw.  and just about every other tool you can think of. Whoever has the most toys when he die's ..... Wins!
