I am putting removable rails on an 18' car hauler trailer.  We will see how this works posting and all.  photos were taken with an iPhone.  Here is my hog.  She will bite if your not looking.  I like girls like that. These are spacers that will go between the top rail and the vertical upright.  The mount is 1/2 inch and to maintain the original rail position and not have to rework my fenders I had to use a spacer or raise my rails above my fenders substantially.  I ran out of Oxygen, broke a bandsaw blade and finished up with an abrasive saw.  I have 14 total that were cut out of a 4x4x1/2 angle iron.  They are roughly 3x2.75x1/2.  The only critical is the 1/2 inch and the 2.75.  It can be less than 2.75, but not over.  It is just a blind spacer. Here is the top rail; it is a 3x2x3/16.Here is my press.  I don't remember the tonnage of the ram, but it will easily bend or brake what ever you want.Last edited by Scott Young; 03-27-2013 at 02:44 AM.
Reply:Getting the most out of my stone.3 down!I started off with mig.  Then the wind began to make it tough even when I was tented.  It would blow up from underneath the trailer.  I am with 1/8 7014 at about 135Another down hand. I am not a photographer.  Don't know why my pliers are in the way.Gotta love when the slag pops.  The wind is blowing hard enough that the slag is blowing off. Here is the only mig pass that didn't get ground out due to pinholes.  I need to work on consistency.  I am using .045 wire on an Ltec 250 migmaster.  Oh well, stick is king.  I have some nr-211-gs, but it isn't rated for 1/2 inch.  It tops out at 5/16 and is single pass only.  I picked it up by accident.  I meant to buy nr-211-mp.There is another grinding wheel almost finished.  I am not grinding all that much.  I just have a bucket of stub rocks that I am finishing up.  I hate to throw away half a rock.  I use the small buggers to peel paint and when they can't do that i toss them.Pipe Vise.
Reply:Your welds look good. My only comment would be a general one that running downhill doesn't give the penetration that running vertical up does, even if it looks pretty. In your case it shouldn't matter either way..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:ok, I'll bite, Why not use drop in stake pockets and wooden verticles? Way less work, and way more cost effective. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:I was wondering the same.Maybe "semi-removable" would be more correct? Reply:well I had more pictures to upload, but my phone is dead at the moment.  I wanted steel instead of wood.  I was given the bolts and nuts.  The steel was 3 joints of 3x2x3/16 and the mounting blocks and spacers came from scrap.  The rest is labor.  It would not be worth it if I were to bill it out.  When everything is bolted up you can't imagine the difference in feel of the trailer.  it was good before, but now.  it is a whole different trailer.  I will post more picts later.  I need to buy some tires now.On a different note.  I haven't run a lot of 7014.  I mostly run 7018s, but due to the cost being almost half, I went with a box of 7014s.  The vertical weld with 7014 is much more fluid than with 7018.  I hadn't remembered it was so different.  I can't wait to get my oven fixed.  I have about 200 lbs of 7018 that need to rebaked.  I hope I can save them.
Reply:Looks good nice work, Been having issues with the wind myself at work so cranked up the Hobart chrysler slant six the other day The 7014 is a sweet rod.Miller 250DX HTP 221 DV AC/DCHenrob O-A Miller 180 MigMiller 150 Inverter   Hobart 10,000 Welder-Generator   Have a good day!!!

Reply:Wood would have worked out fine, but I wanted something a little beefier.
