This afternoon I was handed my favorite soda... and my favorite little Makita impact driver... broken. No big deal... pop the chuck apart and push out the fragment... or so I thought. Once the chuck was apart I still couldn't get the fragment to come free... I tried every little drift I had. No joy. So I tigged a little tit on it and got on it with the vise grips and got it out. Probably not the best method of repair I must admit... I suspect the chuck will now be too soft to be hold up. I was hoping the heat would be concentrated on the fragment. Time will tell. After I removed the fragment it appears that maybe the driver could be disassembled and pushed out? This method is likely how not to repair an impact driver. When I went to put the driver away I found the broken adapter... it looks like it twisted a few times before breaking. No idea what they were doing to break it. Attached Images

Reply:You should be fine. We got one at work (a Dewalt) that I did the same thing to 4 years ago and it is still holding up. Those little impacts are great. When I get back into a house with a garage I will most defiantly have one.If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. Reply:I did that same repair but I didn't snap the bit I just used to small of a bit and would not come out. I took the retaining ball out but that didn't help. Tigged a dowel rod to it it without taking the hole thing apart. Worked great..mine was easy compared to your repair. Attached Images

Reply:With that much plastic deformation before failure there was definitely a heat treatment or material issue with that particular driver. Time to find some USA made stuff. That being said, my last 1/8th inch Eklind (very good brand) allen key wound up like a barber pole the first time I tried to use it.
Reply:Battery life has been good. There is a battery charge indicator built into the battery so you know when you grab it if it has enough charge to do the job.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"
