http://www.auralens.net/c/34/aur-92I haven't tried them.  Just came across searching for something else.
Reply:I used to be a glassblower (technically, lampworker), so I have some old didymium glasses designed to block the sodium flare of soft glass work. I'm going to try them for O/A welding, which I'm just getting set up for and have never tried (in addition to lots of glassblowing long ago, I've done lots of soldering and a bit of brazing). I was just reading up about related glasses this morning (!), I saw the TM2000 which claims to be far better than didymium for several reasons. I haven't found any impartial assessments. I don't imagine I'll be doing a LOT of O/A, so I suspect didymium will suit me. I see them on ebay and elsewhere for under $100, the Auralens is about the same and TM2000 are more like $200Miller XMT304 CC/CVBernard TIG coolerSSC foot pedal"It's a poor craftsman who blames his tewls toles TOOLS" (!^$#% keyboard)
Reply:Check and compare technical data before purchasing.Last edited by tapwelder; 01-26-2013 at 02:30 AM.
Reply:As far as I can tell, it's almost impossible to compare technical data: I haven't seen any technical descriptions, involving specific wavelengths for example, of anything. The most I've seen, I think, is a bit of info on VT (visual transmittance). So when they make claims about UV, or enhanced sodium flare blah blah blah, there are no numbers to compare. And, as I've said, I haven't seen any hands-on comparisons either.Miller XMT304 CC/CVBernard TIG coolerSSC foot pedal"It's a poor craftsman who blames his tewls toles TOOLS" (!^$#% keyboard)

Reply:Keith, The TM is by far the best lens I have used for welding or brazing involving fluxes....by far. I have round about 15 different "special" lenses both old and new. I always suggest it to any students I have, and to anyone wanting to go beyond steel work.
Reply:Take makoman's advice and get the TM2000 lens.  I'm glad I did.Dynasty 300DXSmith He/Ar gas mixerMM350PHobart Handler 120Smith LW7, MW5, AW1A

Reply:Yep shade 6 could be a pain.  I have trouble brazing with shade 5.However, didn't notice a lens on that cobra http://www.cobratorches.com/accessor...lding-eyewear/  other than cutting and welding shade 5.  ThanksLast edited by tapwelder; 01-29-2013 at 02:27 AM.
Reply:Its right between a 5 and 6. Sellstrom calls it a 6, cobra a 5. Its dark....OK for outside use at a swap meet, but wayyyyyy too dark for a shop.
Reply:Looking over the Aural page would you want the AUR-92's or the Cobalt blue filters, at the bottom of the page?I vaguely remember reading something about Cobalt lenses regarding o/a welding aluminum.Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
Reply:There seems to be consensus that Cobalt blue is insufficient, as are glass and plastic didymium. There's only slightly less consensus that the TM2000's are the way to go. I think Makoman has tried almost everything and the TM2000 are his choice, but I don't know for sure if he's tried the AUR-92. Of course, the TM2000 is about as expensive as it gets...Miller XMT304 CC/CVBernard TIG coolerSSC foot pedal"It's a poor craftsman who blames his tewls toles TOOLS" (!^$#% keyboard)
