Reply:When the wire feeds erratically or stops feeding completely. When you end a weld the wire won't come out of the tip as it has done before.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:what about if i feel the wire "drag" thru the cable? is that a bad liner, or is it that my wire is messed up some how? i noticed last night that it seemed to vibrate a little bit thru the cable as the wire came out.is there anyway to just clean them rather than replace? run a bit of rubbing alcohol thru them maybe?thanks.Later,Andy
Reply:You may need to change the tip.  If it gets boogered up, it won't feed as smoothly and you can feel it stuttering back in the cable trying to push it through.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:that may very well be the main cause... the tip does look like poo from all the spatter... i try to clean it off, but some of it is just too stubourn. i'll try that when i get home...i also have found out (from and undisclosed source... they know who they are) that it may have been the fact that my cable was twisted a bit. i was doing some out-of position stuff and i KNOW that the cable was twisted.thanks guys... i appreciate it.Later,Andy
Reply:Yes - keep your tips clean. For that matter, keep ALL your equipment clean...and your material. Clean is MEAN! ...and it will last longer. John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:I was advised when I first started to regularly pull out the liner and blow it out with compressed air. I find this helps. But we really only do aluminium.99% of the time your tips the problem. On a related note: About a year ago we changed over to Kempii guns and liners . The liner is ribbed so there is a lot less surface area of wire in contact with the liner. They are terrific! 4.5m long,1.0mm and 1.2mm ally wire no dramas even with twists.Of course the straighter and more elevated your feeder is the better. The next step was a push/pull gun but the current step up suits us fine.A good guess is better than a bad measurement
