I hope to do this right - I need some information for putting an A frame boom on my truck, I see a lot of them around but want some new ideas. If I hinge 2 - 2" pipes at the rear of the truck and weld them together at the outer ends - then run cables to from of bed at the bottom. Is that about as good as I could do.?Thanks
Reply:There's a fella on here goes by Bob. He has a late 80's square body GMC 3/4 or 1 ton with a nice set of gin poles. I'll see if I can dig up a thread he contributed to here in the past couple of months about this very question. He knows his stuff on these.
Reply:Irish Fixit has also posted some details of his gin poles. I can't find the thread I'm thinking of but here is one with some photos.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...250#post527250
Reply:Here's the one I think I was thinking of, but for hire linked a good one as well. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ead&highlight=

Reply:I've use mine for lifting any thing that I need lifted but ain't strong enough to lift. It's better for lifting building framing than a fork lift. Fork lifts can't go where my truck can, fork lifts aren't always with me like my gin poles are, it cost less to build than a few days of renting a fork lift and fork lifts aren't as versatile as my truck is. |
