I have a Prest-o-lite w200 O/A torch setup that I've have for about a year now and hope to get gas bottles in the near future.  I've picked up a cart for everything, gotten the adapter to connect my reg to a larger acetylene bottle and am looking into flashback arrestors.  This torch setup is rated at about 40cf  max. (can't remember is that per minute or hour?). The connections are A sized, 3/8-24.  I've seen both torch end and regulator end arrestors. My question is, do I need both?  or is one set preferable to the other?  I've read a little about how they could reduce flow, is this a concern on a lightweight torch like this? Also, it seems like a lot of torches come with built in arrestors.  Is that because they are mid to heavy duty and it's not a concern with lightweight torches?  Appreciate the help, thanks.
Reply:The newer torches I thought all came with built in arrestors. There are different schools of thought obviously.....My torch has them built in. I installed another set at the regulator. If my hose were to get a molten glob of metal on it and it burned through and was still hot enough to ignite the acetylene, the flashback arrestor in the torch will do no good. I also have quick disconnects on my torch. So I just wanted to be the most safe. Reply:I checked out esab's site, they do have arrestors, but only in B size.  That's what got me wondering about the little torches and whether they need them. I like the idea of having them.Google searches come back with people who say torch side is best and those that say regulator side is best. Both seems like the best as long as there is no flow restriction. I guess if I had to choose, I would pick regulator and leave it at that. TM Tech has both in the A size on the website for about 50 bucks.
