im thinking of buying this but with the dies and scollsit and up to allmost $3000.00 does anyone have one
Reply:no one here has a 2020 bender well that sas it allthanks everyone ill look else where
Reply:I don't have one.  However, You don't need to spend $3000 to get started.  For that money I would start with a basic hossfeld or American bender and add specifically what I needed.  You probably would still come out under $3000.What are you planning on doing?  The Basic 20/20 bender is less than $800.
Reply:A hossfeld is twice the bender, and doesnt cost much more. The hossfeld is much better built, more versatile, and has hundreds of possible dies for it. For scrolls, neither is really very good- as they both can just bend flat bar the easy way, in a couple of clunky patterns. I have a hossfeld scroll die, and almost never use it- instead, I freehand bend scrolls on top (something you cannot do at all with a shop outfitters, as instead of allowing you to bend on top of the frame, they spent time and money on silly little finials on the tops of their pins, which do nothing, but restrict the use)I just finished a job with around 800-1000 scrolls, in 1/2" round stainless- and I used a German made Hebo for that job- it cost as much as your truck did, new, probably, but it is night and day better and badder than any other scroll bender. RAM makes a much cheaper electric scroll bender, and there are other scroll options as well, depending on what you want to bend, and how much money you got- as the hotrodders used to say, how fast you can go depends on how much you got to spend...However, if you want to bend tubing- for tubing, there is flat out no better hand bender than the JD2- this is a hossfeld design, which has been optimised for tubing bending. It takes the best features of a hossfeld, and makes em better. It WILL NOT do all the other types of bending a hossfeld will do, but it will kick *** on tubing. And the basic bender is pretty cheap, although, as with any bender, tube dies add up fast. There is no way to make good  cheap tubing dies. And you dont want bad cheap ones.Tell us more about exactly what kind of material you want to bend, and in what quantities. There are better tools out there for almost any app than the shop outfitters- its a clumsy knockoff of the hossfeld, but they misunderstood, or just ignored, a lot of the feature that make the hossfeld great.I am, I admit, a bit predjudiced- I have made my living from a hossfeld, bending hundreds of thousands of parts, since about 1978, and it still teaches me things.Last edited by Ries; 12-10-2007 at 01:51 PM.
Reply:Ries you sure do nice work. I agree on the Hossfeld. I bent thousands of furnace hooks when i was a millwright over a period of 8 years from 1/2" SS. The SO bender is nice but the Hossfeld is nicer and it does more...BobBob WrightSalem, Ohio  Birthplace of the Silver & Deming Drillhttp://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sawking/1999 Miller MM185 w/ Miller 185 Spoolmate spoolgun
Reply:I have never used the hossfeld, but I do have the 20/20. I am happy with it. 3000 does sound to high for it and all the dies. A few years ago I bought the 20/20, large ring roller, all dies and attachments. I don't remember it being over 2000. I don't know if it was a disgruntle shop outfitters employee, or a special.
