Some time ago I promised to post some pictures of stainless steel stick welding. So here comes some pics.  This pipe was welded on a table and it was rolled while welding, I hope that you guys can understand what i mean. Thickness of that pipe is 2 mm and it was welded with 2,5 mm esab ok 63.20 welding rods. Attached Images
Reply:Nice! I've never actually seen SS that's been stick welded. Did you grind the backside? If not, those welds actually look pretty clean!
Reply:ss stick welding is a horse of another color. 308-309. I try to use 1/8" rods for only flat or over head and 3/32 for everything.  It is hard to see your puddle with those rods but it will work fine and it is easy to get the hang of it. If your running vertical you will need to run cold or it will fall on your feet.

Reply:Originally Posted by JimboSliceI agree 100%. Stainless steel is very water like. It can get runny real fast. I spent quite some time doing is and never really got the hang of it. I could make it look good but never keep it consistent. Plus the slag has a mind of its own. It pops of while it cools. I've had the stuff land on my lip. It sucks! Thanks for reading!

I tested it out on my welding table, and made a nice lookin' bead.Problem: Laying on a creeper and welding overhead.. I got burned on the ear & neck! Yeah, The slag has a mind of its own.I bought a new Hobart 190 with a Spool-Gun a couple weeks ago, But haven't got any gas cylinders yet... When I do get some, I plan to go back over the exhaust.

Reply:Dont mention it, that remote was a useless scrap to me. Hope you get it working and see benefits of using it. It helps a lot especially when welding open root.
