I'd like to make my own dies and bender, anyone have any idea if this machine would do it, and is it worth the $250?grizz_____________________________________________Miller DVITD-39HF 4x6 BandsawHF Bender & Ring RollerCraftsman 12 inch Drill Press4.5 inch Grinders10 inch Metal shearAnd numerous other little goodies!!!
Reply:You would either need to cast them, or have them machined from solid stock.

Reply:If you plan on turning tubing dies, then that machine will not do it. I am assuming you are planning on turning dies for tubing greater than 1 inch. Most dies have a minimum 3.5 in raduis. In order to turn 7 inches Dia. you probably need at least a 9x lathe. A larger machine would be better. You really need a good machine to make dies. Otherwise it will take a long time to make one die. It is really hard on a cheap machine because you are plunging into the metal. I have a thread somewhere on this forum showing a concave turning tool and some roller dies I fabricated 1.25 sched. 40 pipe. That is not the machine for turning dies.
Reply:Well I kinda had my doubts, I didn't think it whould handle the job. Thanks Tapweldergrizz_____________________________________________Miller DVITD-39HF 4x6 BandsawHF Bender & Ring RollerCraftsman 12 inch Drill Press4.5 inch Grinders10 inch Metal shearAnd numerous other little goodies!!!
Reply:buy the dies. There is a gentleman on Offroadfabnet makind a large die and bender and its a pretty costly venture for the steel alone. since I can buy a full 240* die for ~$300 and just throw it in the bender its worth it. The got trikes bender is pretty easy to make and isn't to expensive. (you will save around $200 building it.) Make sure to do air over hydraulic instead of the hand pump.
Reply:There are plans for a nice tubing bender online at http://www.jerrysdiycorner.com/tb_dvd.htmThis is made with no special tools (cutting torch is primary tool) and the dies are fabricated as well. I have just purchased the plans/DVD myself and am very impressed with them. It appears to be much better than the HF type benders. There really isn't much information available on the plans from the website though. You will just have to order them to see what it is all about. I consider them well worth the money.Gadget
Reply:There are free plans for the bender and you may purchase the dies on the web. They also sell benders:http://www.pro-tools.com/200k.htm |
