Need help with a debate i have been in

I am a welding student and have gotten into a debate with one of my instructors about the slang term "butt cheeking", referring to uneven, high profile fillet welds on the second and third passes on a tee or corner weld. I have heard the term before but my instructor said it is not used in the field and i am not to be using the term. I just want to know if anyone else has heard it or used it.
Reply:Man I wouldn't worry about it. There are so many different slang words in welding and each region each state and each city has their own way of saying things. When your done with your training you can call it what ever you want. As long as you can weld. My best advice is just bide your time learn what you need to learn and make your move. Remember though, that same Instructor may be the one that could help get you a good paying job. Wish ya best man.

Reply:Pushing some ones buttons may make the class more "enjoyable", but it's not going to help you learn. Especially the instructors. You pizz me off in class or become an irritant, I'll concentrate my efforts on helping those who are interested in learning and not on those who think it's funny to just annoy people.You'll also find guys who like to push buttons in the field tend to find out real quick that's not appreciated by others..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I apologize for the confusion of this topic and do realize the importance of getting things done right. The deal going on with my instructor was mutual and in no way intentionally malicious. Not all buttons activate bad things and meant push her buttons in a good way. Reading the feedback has made me realize this situation is still a distraction and also unprofessional, either way.
Reply:The classroom on hands learning, book work, and real world are different. Grasp all the knowledge you can and you'll adapt to the real world. Each teacher, partner, and welder have there own niche and way of things. God luck !
