So, space is an issue in my garage. Every weekend I move the car out and set up all my stuff, but I'm still tripping over cords and clamps and machines. So, to help I made this little receiver system for my bench grinder. I don't like it on my work bench because of the sparks. Now I can just drop it into these two pieces of square tube and go to town. Keeps it out of the way. 2x4 is on studs of course. Extra square is for a fan mount.Welded with lincoln power mig 140, just shy of maxed out, wire speed 3 of 10.

Reply:Thanks, I guess I should have included some weld pics for input, I'll have to add one later. I was just excited an idea worked out for once!
Reply:Great idea. I'm putting a 2" receiver under my workbench that'll hold my vice when I need it but keep it out of the way when I don't. Got the idea from Ag Magazine Machinery show on RFD-TV.

Reply:Looking good but somehow I would have made some kind of diagonal bracing so the load is more evenly distributed and you don't tend to torque the screws driven into the studs any time you lean on the grinder.Mikel
Reply:That's a good idea. I use this mostly for taking the knife edge off stuff I'm cutting so I don't lean on it much. But I will add a brace and take a pic.
Reply:I bolted the hitch receiver under my welding table and have the vise and bench grinder set up so either will go there. Reply:Now that's pretty F'n smart. :-) Great idea for someone with limited space. I May have to borrow the idea for my small garage.Lincoln 175Monkey Wards 230v. Stick

Reply:Yeah my current table won't support the weight of a hitch style mount. I'm thinking of rebuilding the table, but it would involve rebuilding my workbench so I can store it. (Right now my welding table rolls under my workbench between two shelves)

(Right now my welding table rolls under my workbench between two shelves)I really didn't want a permanent shelf on that outer garage wall either, because I park very close to wall to leave my wife more space. And it was an excuse to weld.
Reply:That's a great idea and solution to a limited space in the shop. Well done! |
