I am in the process of putting another rig together and am wondering what everyone else is using for portable ovens.. Keen or Phoenix is all I can seem to find.. Any info will be appreciated.. I have a keen on my truck now but it's falling apart...
Reply:I use a chinese one for small carry version and TUFF for the big drum version... any rod heater would actually do... it will do its job...Unit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
Reply:If your snall one is any good, can you tell me where I can get one. I can't understand whey the bigger ones are so expensive. They cost as much as a new kitchen oven.
Reply:Here... in 3rd world there are a brown with chinese govt ok signature... I can read chinese but I couldnt bother to remeber , next time I will give ya the maker...If you want an easier safer option with International cert. try TUFF equipment...A small one fit a box, while the bigger one can have the whole days rods used in a shipyard stored and warm for comfort...Bigger oven is the main heater for rod until distributed into smaller hand carry oven to carry to specific job site... I think...Unit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
Reply:I have a 10lb 110V Lenco on the way (152.05 at weldingsupply.com). I have yet to buy anything that says Lenco on it that doesn't have Made in USA stamped on it, and so far it is all first class stuff. The only stinger I have used in recent years that can hang with theirs is my 300 amp air cooled Lincoln. I ordered two 250 amp ground clamps with no manuf listed at 6.95 each. I figured Chinese but was wrong. They were Lenco as well. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:I have a Phoenix, and it is built like a tank.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Phoenix here also, 50 pounder so I can benefit by buying the big cans cans of rod cheaper. Depending on how much lo-hy you go through the savings in buying 50# cans can pay for the oven in short order. It generally costs several cents more per pound to buy 10# cans.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:That's a good point Olddad. This also saves you trips to get more fresh rod.

Reply:I've used the Phoenix and the square blue ones (can't recall the manufacturer) in the portables. Both were excellent. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:I keep thinking i would like to build a propane powered one or else try and use the exhaust heat from my welder to heat one. Has anybody ever seen a setup like that?Joewww.CummingsHauling.com
