Im have a small piece of high carbon steel labelled 1084 content: C- .876 Si- .274 Mn- .803 P- .0100 S- .0040 Cr- .153 Ni- .037 Mo-.007 V- .004 W- .003 Cu- .037 Sn- .0030 Al- .006 Annealed Structure: 95% spherodized carbides.I have to do a small tack weld to join two pieces of this material without the weld showing after grinding. What would you recommend for a rod that is least likely to leave a visible mark on the material and has similar properties to this steel ? Thank you!
Reply:Just to add im a certified level 1 welder in Canada. A novice just out of school. Im thinking of 7018 for a rod but ive heard some can discolour the steel and some dont. Just wondering if theres better electrode options for this.
Reply:Do you have a picture of the part?
Reply:Not yet but when I have it set up I can. The rod question kind of determines how this part will be built. If I cant hide the weld ill have to take a different approach.
