I built these for a customer. They wanted two reels for a prototype. They have ends that are 16" diameter with a 1" radius. I love hammering things like this out.www.performancealuminumfabrication.com
Reply:Before people ask how i did it, here is a good write up on the process. I didn't write this but he explains it better than i could. HERE IS THE LINKwww.performancealuminumfabrication.com
Reply:Looks great. I'm always impressed by what can be hammer formed. Thanks for the link to the tutorial also. One of these days I'll have to try it. Have you ever thought about metal spinning? I have a small lathe and can form 10" disks into bowls and cones. If your doing more than a few it can really save some time. Of course you'd need something slightly larger.Last edited by forhire; 06-05-2013 at 01:37 AM.

Reply:Spinning is a neat process!  I do a bit and it can be addictive.  Here are some links to spinning sites I have saved.  Also check youtube for videos.http://www.jobshop.com/techinfo/pape...pinpaper.shtmlhttp://web1.uct.usm.maine.edu/~zaner...nning/SPIN.HTMhttp://metalspinningworkshop.com/http://www.aardvark.co.nz/pjet/spinning1.shtmlhttp://www.bazzshop.com/Terry Tynan  Also has some vids for sale.http://www.terrytynan.com/metalspinning.htmlRogerOld, Tired, and GRUMPYSalesman will call, Batteries not included, Assembly is required, and FREE ADVICE IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAY FOR IT!Dial Arc 250HFThunderbolt 225 AC/DCAssorted A/O torches
Reply:Nice pics on the hammerformed piece!  Got any shots of your mandrel?  What material did you use for it; hardwood?  Plywood?  Did you turn it on a lathe, or just cut a circle, and use a router to get the roundover edge profile? Some high-end racecar intercooler end tanks (like some turbo'ed Formula One) are hammer-form fabricated out of sheet aluminum.    (And I'm sure are both super lightweight, and flow air really well as a result.)
