Are there any engine driven welder/generators on the market that enable a person to use the welder WITHOUT the engine running?I am interested in purchasing a welder/generator machine for use where power is not available, but when power is available just "plug in" the welder part to a wall outlet (assuming 230 VAC) without running the engine.
Reply:I dont think so?? it sound like you just need to get a basic generator and plug your welder into it when you dont have electricity???

Reply:The Miller Pipe Pro 304 would fit that description. If you look at Millerwelds.com, the XMT304CC/CV has been on the market since '96 and has proven to be a tough, reliable 80 lb workhorse industry wide. The Pipe Pro is essentially a Kubota diesel engine driving an ac generator that then powers an XMT304 welder installed in the front of the welder. If you kill the engine, run 240 vac into the machine, the welder is just as happy as if its power were furnished by the engine driven generator. While it may be harder to find, Powcon tried a similar concept several years ago by marketing a gasoline driven generator package that included one of their inverters that simply mounted into a mating cavity in the machine so it could be removed if desired. weldersales

Reply:Yup, the Pipe Pro is a dual power machine. Kind of a neat feature...but at nearly 14k!!!!If you want a smaller unit that has dual power, Miller just came out with the Renegade 180. It is a 180a wire feeder with a small gas motor on it. It also will run off of the 230vac shop power. Think of it as a MM180 with its own power source.
Reply:It's like a cross between a Blue Star generator and a Millermatic 180, but no constant-current stick welding, only mig. Pretty cool idea, a self-powered portable mig welder the size of a wheel barrow. The dual-power feature of the Pipe Pro 304 is a $1000 option available on that machine. I never welded with one but have welded with the XMT. I would like to see Miller come out with a Pipe Pro using the new XMT 350 MPa with built-in pulse-mig as the welding source. That would be an innovation .MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
