I'm looking at two low hour used TIG machines. Both come with a full 4' tank, some filler rods, pedal, torch and consumables. This will be my first TIG welder for practice while I'm in school and for stuff around my home shop. The Econotig is $1100, the Lincoln is $1200.Any opinions on which I should go with and why...thanks in advance! Reply:I've ran them both. I'd go with the Lincoln. The one reason I am going to mention is that on the DC side the Miller low end is 30amps and on the Lincoln it down around 10 amps. I've never needed 10 amps, but I have need down around 20 amps  before.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
Reply:The Lincoln is square wave and a lot newer. I think it has more amps as well. I think the square wave alone makes the Lincoln a better choice in this case. I used a sq. wave 175 briefly and I know it has a thermal cut out if it gets too hot. It seemed to work nice on aluminum. Make sure the cylinders can be filled and aren't rental cylinders that were never returned.
Reply:Lincoln, hands down.I've owned two of them.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024
Reply:Not sure if your new to tig or not but basically the difference between square wave and the old fashioned a.c. waves is that the change from dc positive to dc negative is instantaneous with no drop in amps. Makes for a much nicer puddle.

Reply:I've never checked the collars on my 75/25 tanks but only one of the three dealers near me will exchange them. Airgas won't touch them. Thanks for the advise.Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2Lincoln Weld-Pak 100 HD
