Anyone have a copy of the WPS for the AWS 6g (sch80) test? I'm going to start practicing here soon and was wanting to review.I'm looking for the TIG / SMAW / and I guess its called combo (Tig root and 7018 out)?
Reply:Id like to know how to practice this test too. Never done pipe and want to get a job doing it in the near future. I was also pricing out some of this stuff and its EXPENSIVE!!
Reply:Well the good thing is, once I start practicing, I can do my own bend out tests as I work for a metal fab shop and have access to some 200+ ton Press Brakes lol...

Reply:At the moment I don't have a scrap bin, or a press at home
Reply:I believe they are 1 inch rolls but how far apart are they center to center? I would like to make one.
Reply:Carl,Could you possibly get some more pics of your coupon brake?I'm looking at building one, and need a design to follow. Thanks,~John
Reply:Sorry guys, I forgot I posted in this thread. Just seen your requests a few minutes ago.Far as I know, AWS requires the 1 1/2 round stock on the ram. I took some scrap 6 C-channel. And two of the 1 1/2 dies out of my compact bender. 5/8 bolts work with these dies. I have them spaced 4 5/16 center to center. This works perfect for 3/8 thick face and root bends. For side bends just make your cut 3/8 thick. I placed a piece of rubber mat inside it. Before I did this the coupons always got dings in them. Reply:Thanks Carl I have wanted to make one of these for quite sometime but didn't know the diameter of the roles and the center distance. Nice simple build. Thanks Again John
Reply:AWS D1.1 2010 Clause 4. Qualification Figures 4.15, 4.16 and 4.17 give the required dimensions for guided, wrap around guided and roller equipped guided bend test jigs. The dimensions are different for base metal based off of base metal yield strength. Most will be using 50 ksi {MPa} yield strength and it is 1 1/2" for the plunger and 3/4" for the roller/rollers.jrw159
Reply:Is the center distance of the rollers still 4 5/16 or would it be 3 17/32
Reply:From what I've read over the years, the 1 1/2 on the plunger is the most important part. Then having clearance for the 3/8 thick coupons to clear the rollers. That's where the center to center measurement comes into play. The diameter of the roller should not matter, if the center to center measurement is correct.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Thanks for all your help
Reply:For 50 ksi {MPa} yield strength the distance is shown from the inside edges of the rollers and it is 2 3/8". This would be 3 1/8" center to center of the rollers.jrw159
Reply:It took awhile but I found this drawing I had. I gave my bender a little more clearness, just encase I wanted to bend thicker coupons. Attached ImagesDont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
