Reply:From a tip chart I happened to have handy, a #2 or #3 Victor welding tip is about right for 1/8". That puts you roughly in the range of maybe 8 - 10 CFH on the Acetylene for welding. Your acet tank should be an 80 or so based on withdrawal. Double-check the numbers with another chart."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:+1I was just going to say that for 1/8th steel you will need a larger acetylene tank. its the old 1/7th flow rule. You shouldn't withdraw more than 1/7th of the tank in an hour. For example a 40 cu ft tank can only safely support a flow rate of 5.7 cu ft per hour. A size 2 tip is rated for 1/8th in. steel, and flows between 5-10 cu ft per hour. You would be pushing the safety limits on that small tank. I would think you would be limited to nothing larger than a size 1 tip with that small tank.Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:40cf sized tank????? You're gonna need a bigger "boat" there if your serious about even small O/A cutting.
