New guy's projects

Hello everyone my name is Ryan and I'm the new guy. I just got a Tig machine and after hours and hours browsing this site I figured I would ad a couple little practice projects that I'm working on. My welds are still looking like garbage but with a whole bunch of hood time I hope to improve. I have an older Linde Mig machine and my new to me Miller Econotig. Anyway, thanks to everyone for the bucket load of info... Ryan

Reply:Is there any safety concern with having the gas cylinder(s) so close to the table?Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!
Reply:I wouldn't think there is a huge concern. as long as they are not at risk of being arced on. All welding rigs have tanks right next to welding and cutting without problems. However i am sure the safety patrol will correct me.... I would be more worried about one falling over from being un secure than being to close to cutting and welding. But I also weld on pressurized gas filled pipe all the time and feel safe doing it.Keep at it hood time cant be replaced by anything except hood time with an old timer or experienced welder helpin you out. lots of good info here .....some also should be takin with some salt... good luck
Reply:Yeah maybe I need to build a little sheild around the bottle? And a split peice of rubber hose to insulate it. The table is brand new so it's a work in progress just like me... Ryan

Reply:Maybe it's just me...but I would hesitate to put any pressurized cylinder in contact with a work table. Arcing has been known to occur to the cylinders in such situations. On our construction sites... we avoid securing any cylinders to structures - like cofferdams - that we are actively welding on.
