Recently I had to drop the deck off of my Poulan riding mower due to bending a blade plus problems with leveling the deck. It turns out that when I bought it they had rigged up the mounts on it using alot of wire. I tried putting glider wheels on it to keep it level, but it still rides to low.Now that I have it removed, it gave me an idea. I have a Bolens G174 tractor and have the thought of converting the deck into a light duty bush hog to run off of my pto and hook on with a 3 point. A 3 point hitch is easy enough to build, so now I am trying to think of how to get a gearbox to run to the pulley for the blade to run a belt.I can get some photos of the deck loaded if anyone needs it, it is a 42 inch deck, so it should be just perfect with my wheels in as it will be 3 inches wider on each side then.I am just looking for some feedback from anyone that has done this before, as a regular bush hog is rather pricey and my poulan mower also needs the engine overhauled, but the Bolens runs perfect.
Reply:Maybe use the rear diff on the mower to act as the gear box? Changing your horizontal rotation to a veritcal one. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
