So I just picked up my maxstar about a week ago, but the only problem with is it came with a real short stinger, and ground clamp. I am not sure what size dinse my welder uses(i believe it is the large version), and the other thing is I can't find the leads with the dinse on it already. Do I have to add the dinse ends on the lead or something. I would like to find some 25 feet ground and stinger rated at 200 amps. Can someone point me in the right direction please.Miller Maxstar 200 SDPiperliner #10 Gold
Reply:The Maxstar 200 uses 50mm Dinse, I believe. You can make your own leads up with parts from a welding shop, or you can buy them ready-made from places like ArcZone.http://www.arc-zone.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=7481 Sorry, you posted before I realized my mistake and edited!Last edited by Advan; 03-17-2013 at 05:11 PM.
Reply:Agreed. If you have all the parts and the only problem is short cables, all you have to do is take apart the connectors and attach some new #2 welding cable in your desired lengths!
Reply:Al you need is 50 feet of cable. You already have everything else you need on the ones that came with it.www.georgesplasmacuttershop.comPlasma Cutter and Welder Sales and Repairs--Ebay storeTec.Mo. Dealer Consumables for the PT and IPT torch's
Reply:Awesome sounds good to me. I know Airgas stocks cable so I can just pick some up and fix me up some long leads.Miller Maxstar 200 SDPiperliner #10 Gold
Reply:Looking at prices its almost the same price to just buy the stinger and ground new.Miller Maxstar 200 SDPiperliner #10 Gold
Reply:Might just get a heavy extention cord, your machine is quite portable.

Reply:The Maxstar is 200A at 20% duty cycle. 4 ga. cable is plenty.A few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I just ordered 50ft of #2 cable. #4 was only rated at 100 amps dont think it is enough. Whats the difference between #4 and 4/0 or do they mean the same thing? Will the #2 be fine?Last edited by smilexelectric; 03-21-2013 at 09:16 AM.Miller Maxstar 200 SDPiperliner #10 Gold
Reply:Wire sizes below #1 are measured in "oughts" .4/0 is way larger than #4 I used to have a link that showed wire gauge sizes, but it looks like they took the chart down. Needless to say 4/0 wire is very thick and heavy and way overkill for your little machine, so don't worry about it.One chart I pulled up shows #4 good for 150 amps at 100 feet. 100 feet is the total length, so 50' of stinger and 50' of ground cable. I regularly use a short length of light gauge cable ( either #2 or #4 I can't remember right now) on my stinger so it's easy and flexible to work with. I've never had any issues with the stock size cables at the amps I usually run 1/8" 7018 at. Keep in mind the reason for larger cable sizes is to reduce the voltage drop cause by the long length of wire. A short length won't kill you as long as the main run is within that size rating. Obviously if you are trying to get away with a super thin cable and stupid high amps, carbon arcing, you will have issues, but that won't be the case with your machine.Heavier cable won't hurt you, well except in the wallet when you have to buy it, and your back when you have to haul 100+ feet of say 2/0 or larger cable....No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Welding cable size chart:http://www.directwireusa.com/resourc...rage-chart.pdfThe /0 cables are larger and the numbering is reversed. A #2 is larger than a #4. A #2/0 is smaller than a #4/0. I think the /0 refers to what $ is left in your wallet after you buy them.Edit: DSW is quicker on the clicker."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder |
