I am working on an old MGA and replacing body panels, in some spots there are Pin holes and i have been filling them with the mig. every once and a while the hole opens up and i use a steel welding rod to help fill it.....today i happened to notice that i had some brazing rods, can i use the brazing rods in the same fashion?bobs77vet/37ford4drEastwood digital TIG200HH190Lincoln Invertec 155sLincoln weldpak 100sears/craftsman (lincoln) 50a 240v buzz boxO/A rig Harris gaugesnexion cut 50 dxchicago electric (HF) 240v spot welder
Reply:Brazing doesn't fill gaps very well, the best bet would be cut to good metal and make a patch, then mig it in.Leo
Reply:Yeah get yourself a few steel sheet metal discs made up then hold them behind your holes in your work and use the MIG to tack them into place. In my younger years we used to stuff rags in the holes and Bondo over them. Looked good for a couple years until they started falling out. Then we had to stuff a few more rags and rebondo. Kept more then one car together that way for a long time.

Reply:They do make silicon bronze mig wire for mig brazing. I can't recall who touted it as great at the moment, but apparently it's great for body work and grinds off much easier than steel mig wire. Also less heat input and panel warp. Reply:+1 Silicon Bronze mig, it melts at a lower temp than the steel and is a lot softer than a normal mig bead which makes working it down easier, your local LWS should be able to get it but it will probably be cheaper to order it from an online dealer.
