Does anyone have cool ideas on fixing torch hose when it splits between the Oxy/Act? I've tried electrical tape, but that does not work well. I have 100' and not really wanting to replace it all. It makes it a real pita trying to roll up the hose when these 2 loose lines.
Reply:There are metal bands that come on most O/A hoses. See if your LWS has these.
Reply:The metal bands the way I use them are to split the two as far as you choose and then no farther.Back before nylon rope I think it was called something beginning with the letter f a thin string was wrapped around the end of the rope to keep it from coming undone. simpler and less bulky than back splicing. One of those things or just a number of half hitches, a running half hitch and melt the last one might work. I find seperate hoses are more flexible and the tape or enough of the taped places on the few I have rarely need attention.
Reply:The letter "L" lashing, look up how to lash the end of a rope. If you're clever (and patient) you can put plastic/nylon wire ties on "backwards' the lock goes between the hoses, if you need I can post a picture tomorrow, it is a bit much to try and explain.Just my opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com
Reply:Get some 24 gauge steel and cut it to roughly 1"wide x 3 1/2" long. Then wrap it around the houses at the split. Then crimp it with your fingers. It won't go anywhere.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller 625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita Baileigh NRA Life Member
Reply:Wrap a zip tie around the two hoses in a figure-8. It will stop the hoses from separating farther and can be used to tie them back together if they've split farther than you like.Dynasty 300DXSmith He/Ar gas mixerMM350PHobart Handler 120Smith LW7, MW5, AW1A

Reply:Shrink tubing if they make it that big. Use a 2" piece every foot or so. There are some pretty big sizes.Dan

Reply:Zip ties will pop off within a year, so it is only a short term solution. I like the shrink tube idea best.

Reply:Originally Posted by 4sfedI have to disagree with you on this. Shrink tubing is designed as electrical insulation ... PVC is not a structural plastic. Zip ties are made of nylon... the black ones are resistant to UV and will last for years.
Reply:We use shrink tube as large as 4inches and yes black zip ties are UV resistant

Reply:There is some sort of PVC tape (not electrical tape) which might work. Or that thick rubber tape that is used on electrical splices."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder
Reply:Try a zip on tig torch hose cover. Very flexible and can be removed to check hoses for cuts/leaks. They would provide protection from additional damage also. I am talking about the black mesh design with zipper not the leather ones with snaps on them. |
