I'm hoping the brain trust here can help.Looking for a #4 face shield. Here's the deal. I wear trifocals. Tried goggles over my glasses, drove me nuts.Bought a Hypertherm full face which is great, but even with their lowest # 6 rating I still can't see where I'm going worth a flip.I saw on an old thread on another forum from England where a guy had a # 4. I tried researching it, but it turned out to be a dead end.Someone please help this old semi blind cataracted guy out.
Reply:I bought a pair of #5 green shade glasses off ebay and they worked well then I lost them.I use my htp striker helmet which was $99 for plasma cutting since it has a grind mode.I use my miller helmet for tig welding.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:A lot of auto-darkening welding helmets have a fixed shade of #4. Take out the battery and use as-is. That's what I did with my old harbor freight welding helmet whose auto-darkening took a crap. Not dark enough for me really, I think I would like a #6 or #7 to be honest. But it works just dandy. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! HTP Invertig 400HTP Invertig 221HTP ProPulse 300HTP ProPulse 200 x2HTP ProPulse 220MTSHTP Inverarc 200TLP HTP Microcut 875SC
Reply:I use this.http://www1.mscdirect.com/cgi/NNSRIT...-SearchResultsMuch more comfortable than trying to fit a set of tinted glasses over your prescription glasses. My only complaint is that I need to trim the bottom corners of the shield off, it smacks me right in the collarbone when I flip it down.If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
Reply:Yeh I got one from the LWS, #5 I think. Little dark for plasma. Can't see the line before you start sometimes. I remember asking if they had a #4 and he said they don't make them in a #4. "They" could be the source the LWS buys from too tho. For quick cuts with the plasma I'd like a bit lighter than what I've got."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:This is possibly dumb but I use one of those silver welder pencils cuz they show up good and I also use one of those clip on aluminum lamps to illuminate my line when I use my plasma cutter cuz my lens is too dark for me...Not the best answer, I am sure. Just works for me.(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah: Go Big Red! (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:I use regular sunglasses with no issues. Granted my cutter is only 50 amps. Maybe you could get some over the glasses sunglasses.Tim Beeker.
Reply:These might fit over your glasses. I've been using teh same pair for nearly forty years.http://www.jacksonsafety.com/linkdet...roupid=3002687
Reply:Probably not the best answer but I would try a light window tint on a clear shield, cant be any worse than sunglasses I wouldn't think
Reply:Have to wear bifocals myself so I also use a faceshield with brazing/plasma.Here's another source that lists a #4 :http://www.mcmaster.com/#face-shields/=lx7eds
