I was wondering how much influence the CO2 content really has on mig welding mild steel? Is the difference between for instance C25 and C15 immediately obvious when welding? Also if I understand correctly would a lower CO2 content be better on thin sheet to minimize burn through? Anybody that has tried different shielding gases and would like to share their experiences?PeteLast edited by Pete.S.; 03-22-2013 at 07:56 PM.
Reply:Yes the lower co2 would be advantageous on sheet metal. At least I think so.Straight co2 can never go into spray arc, but has good digging charactistics. c25 gets you closer to spray and is a good compramise between digging/penetration and spray.I like c10 for 2 reasons. I goes right into spray, and I like the virtually spatter free welds. It looks to be the best mix for me using metalcore wire.C5 or trimix both are limited in co2 breakdown as there is little, so post weld corrosion is kept to a minimum.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
