After trying out the new Lincoln V310T (not overly impressed) on Tuesday 4/15, bought a Miller Dynasty 350, but because of budgetary constraints, I bought the power sourse at this time, the matching cooler and rack will have to wait until July or August. I have a Miller Coolmate 3 and a couple of torches, so I can use the unit now, I just won't have the "complete" package until laterJack Attached Images

Reply:I've been using the new machine, and it is amazing, so many options and settings. Just when you found one you like, you switch to another and that becomes your new favorite. It came with a 104 page manual and a DVD, it is involved, but has 36 memory slots to load those "perfect procedures" for future use. Along with the tig procedures I also ran about 20# of E6010 and another 20-25# of E7018, not only is this a great tig welder, its an excellent stick welder.Jack
Reply:I sent the machine back to the LWS, I had an operational problem, for over a week, and with close to a dozen e-mails to both Miller and ITW, I called the rep and said, come get it. I've now making arrangements to get a Lincoln V310T. Yes, I probably could have found the answers to the problem elsewhere, but after spending close to $6500, it the principal, I will not be ignored. Apparently Miller isn't the company they used to be.Jack
Reply:Shame about the issues. Just out of curiousity, what sort of problems occured? Also curious where you felt the V310T came up short in comparison to the Dynasty
Reply:First off the problem has to do with a software issue, and according to the the sales rep, MIller can fix it over the phone, just unable to get them to talk to me. I believe the Lincoln is an excellent tig machine, maybe even better than the Miller, but is a below average stick welder, and for almost $7000 list, it should be better. The Miller is probably a better all round machine, an excellent stick/tig machine, but the Lincoln maybe a better AC tig machine.Jack
Reply:You had a Thermal Arc for sale. How did this work and compare to the Miller welders?Jim
Reply:Jim,First, the TA185 was a great machine, it had more than enough features for the homeowner or light industrial market, but because of the limit of 185 amps, couldn't be used on bigger projects. The Miller is double the size in output, almost triple the cost, and has all of the features of the TA, and a lot more. Again the TA 185 is a great machine, and is an excellent buy, but for what I work on, it was too small. The Miller is an excellent machine, but it appears that after sales service/assistance is severely lacking at this time. The Lincoln has even more features than the Miller, most that I would never use, 2 of my friends weld in the aerospace industry and say the Lincoln V310T is the best they ever used. I really wish the problem with Miller could have been worked out, because of the stick performance, I would really rather have the Miller.jack
Reply:Drool!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Cheers for that. I had a feeling it'd be the stick side that it fell short on (in comparison)Did you look at the TA's bigger cousin? My v205t hasn't missed a beat in 7 seven years of regular use- been dropped hard enough to break the cooler mounts but keeps on going. A little short of guts for some jobs but at the time 200A was all that was available from a light, portable, single phase machineI take it Kemppi isn't readily available in the states?

Reply:I finally fixxed the problem, I hope, after about 3 hours of code input, unlocked the unit, its now working okay, shut it off, waited 10 minutes, turned it back on, unit still unlocked. Will run unit in morning.Jack

Reply:PP20 - glad to hear you got it running. I'm curious why you chose the Dyn over the Synch? Feel free to stop up to the shop when you get a chance.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:John,I chose the Dynasty 350 over the Snyc 350, because of weight and input amperage, the Dynasty's amp draw is almost half that of the Snyc. This may be taken to job sites, fom time to time, its 110# for the Dynasty vs about 500# for the Snyc. Now that I've cooled down a titch, we will see what happens Monday, looking back when I bought the MM350P, it wasn't without problems at the start, but has been a great machine after the teething problems were solved. I reallly like the machine, but I'm just severely fustrated with the lack of responce from Miller.jack
Reply:Jack - sounds reasonable. I have a Dyn 250 at work, so if you need help with yours, just give me a shout. I have a few contacts at Miller as well, so let me know if you still need help on that front.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Microzone,I see in your previous post that you have the Dynasty 250 at work. How does that machine weld? Is it the new prototype from Miller Electric?I have been asking Miller (See Miller Boards) to build a 250/275A inverter for some time. Even Andy on Miller has told me it's probably a year or so away. Now I find you've got one in your shop. I'm ticked. You must really have some serious pull with Miller.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:Miller has responded, and in a positive way. I have had numerous converations with Miller, talking to the President twice, and also to members of service, design and engineering. While to problem is a new issue to them, as they have never had reports of it before, they after some research, have offered me a immediate fix to get me through my current job, and would like running data on weld type, settings, enviromental condition and other data to help insure a long term fix. At this point, I really can't ask for more. It has become apparent, that Miller is not only concerned about the issues with the welder, but also in the issue of the lapse in the chain of communication. I'm not Boeing, GM, Ford or a large industrial contractor, just a small customer to a large manufacturing corporation, and for the President of that company to personally call me to offer his help in resolving the issues, has to say alot about the company. While the delay in the responce has been fustrating, I'm very glad that we are moving forward and have Miller's assurance that this problem will be fixed.Jack
Reply:Miller is the type of company that feels that even though you're a small customer, the problems you have will be or have been encountered by the big ones. Problems with machines can affect all customers, and that's why all are important. I'm glad to hear they have stepped to the plate to help you out.
Reply:Also glad to hear they called and gave you a welcome response.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com |
