Reply:Well today I started to design a guard for the belt here is a paper mock up. What do you think or do you have any idea or suggestion. My idea is to build a one pic guard and allow the paper to not hit the guard if it becomes out of tracking. So many people with this type of Belt Sander said the paper eats up there guards Will try to overcome that problem  Also here is my link to the sander:   Thank you Vernonhttp://s795.photobucket.com/albums/y...Belt%20Sander/ Attached Images
Reply:Here is the mock guards soon to be in sheetmetal.                                 Vernon

Reply:Building that guard, with the same care and thought as the rest of the machine just puts this project over the top.  I've seen many projects and done a few myself but where they usually fall down is that we are too anxious to put our project to use so things like guards and paint get neglected.I don't need a belt sander myself, already have a General sander similar to yours but I would like to know if you built this from plans or if it is your design?  I am sure some of those here would be willing to purchase plans if you have your own.Did you crown either the sanding belt drive and/or idler pulley? Will you be adding a set of wheels to the base so you can move it around?Really enjoyed this thread, I went back and read all your posts, I liked the base for the hougen drill as well.  The eccentric aligning pins was a brilliant idea, I am sure if I was building one I would have tried welding on bar stock with no adjustment possible."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25

Reply:Well here the belt guard not done yet but it is shaped out of metal. I will fit it to the machine and cut a port in the bottom for grinding dust to exit out the rear. the guard will be cut to go in so the outside is even with the outside cover.                                                                              Vernon Attached ImagesHomemade Belt Sander "LINK"http://s795.photobucket.com/albums/y...Belt%20Sander/
