Reply:Its just powdercoating,For interior items I HIGHLY suggest using a MATT or Flat Finishthey look much better in fact flat almost always looks better than semi gloss on anything imo,it still has some sheen but not muchhttp://www.forgingtechnology.com/
Reply:I am also doing another railing somewhat similar but with a WAX finish on raw metal,we use the torch to smooth everything out as far as colouring and grinding goes.than heat it all up and rub either oil or wax on to the projecthttp://www.forgingtechnology.com/

Reply:You can see why heating up the metal is better when you heat up more of it,I bent all of those in about 1-2 hoursand burned off about 50 lbs of propane just juicing it with the quad burner forge powered by Shop Vac we are about to do more of this railing off a giant granite rock down into the oceancall it the "staircase into the sea" Attached Imageshttp://www.forgingtechnology.com/

Reply:Bryce,Really nice work.  Can I ask a question or two in reference the first house with the black railing ?  You said its powdercoated.  Do I take that to mean you very very carefully measured the house, then drew up perfect plans, build to railing exactly to plan, had it coated and then simply installed?  Nothing in my life ever works that smoothly. Never ever, and I've designed many many things.  What's the magic sauce?--Perhaps its start off with perfect CAD model built on site on a laptop, dimensional's verified by independent source?  (laser cloud scan would be nice...I've done that before. )--Or do you have a few slip fits in your design that aren't highly visible to accommodate slight variation?  --Or even lots of trips for sub assemblies between shop and final location for test fits?Again, really great work.  Thanks for sharing.Zip.Last edited by zipzit; 07-08-2013 at 01:51 AM.
Reply:You can make templates on site and do the fabrication based on that,walls are often out of square ectthe small railing on the short pony wall was fit on site,depends on how good you are but essentially if you make the bottom section for your railing the top should be the same and everything else level, you can do pretty much any job in 2 fitsone make the lower section, two make the entire exterior frame and test fit itif your good 1,2, can be combined unless its a really complicated jobcheck out the fairbanks/dupont hammer in action in the above videohttp://www.forgingtechnology.com/
