TIG'ed up a lower rack(part that the lava rocks sit on) for a friends BBQ. Few pics of the project....Everybody likes pics, so enjoy.... Attached Images

Reply:I'd be afraid to do it with 16ga or even 13ga x 1/2" expanded metal, my guess is that it would sag pretty bad in a year or so.Just did the same thing but different!  16x24 Arkla bottom grate was burned / corroded / bent so bad the ceramic briques fell down.  Replaced the bottom with 1/4" CR rods 3/4" apart.  Replaced the top grille (shown) with 3/8" CR rods spaced with a 3/8x3/4 CR bar.   IMS had half dozen 10' pieces in the scrap bin half price because they had about a foot of bow.  As you can see ...  Tacked with the HH140 w/C25 on V=4, speed 50, then welded with the PA3A with .045 at about 135a and 21v and CO2.  Man, that CO2 is really HOT -   - the welds kinda sagged!    I'd shoot a pic but it's not here.  Gotta grind it out, but the welds don't interfere with the grillin'!   Sears meat pretty good with thick rods like that! Reply:do yourself a favor and get some hollow lock set screws http://www.mcmaster.com/#hollow-set-screws/=nlxgh6keeps the threads from getting full of crud, since theyre hollow, debris falls through them
