I got a couple of dull rotobroach cutters I need to get sharpened Is there any jig or tool to sharpen them yourself? or do i have to ship them to a sharpener?

Reply:my old man sharpens ours on a grinder , lots of water and a good eye , only ever had one that would jump arond plate instead of cutting , but thats only one in probably 15 hes done since we bought the rotobroach
Reply:Send the cutters out for sharpening by a sharpening service that has experience doing it. Often when you purchase a new cutter they supply data on the correct angle etc. If one cutting edge is even a thousandth too high then it will be overloaded shortening the life of the cutter before sharpening. A properly sharpened cutter used properly will do hundreds of holes. 200 holes is not uncommon. Have an unskilled operator and you will be lucky to cut 50 holes. If you are really lucky he will keep forcing it and break the thing.
Reply:I have snapped a few drilling double truck frames the rust gets between the two layers of metal and is incredibly hard. The dull bits are 20.00 ebay specials I guess I will just get new ones
Reply:If you are paying 20 apiece buy new ones... use the recommended coolant. The really good cutters are carbide tipped and cost considerably more. Locally a good quality 13/16 dia. cost around 60 Canadian. Carbides are double.
Reply:I agree with the pro sharpener idea, make sure he's familiar with rotobroaches. there too expensive to play with.disarco |
