Posted this question on another forum also. Interested in everyone's opinion & experience. I'm using the WP-17 that came with the machine which I understand is limited to 150 amps. Occasionally I need the extra 50 amps up to 200 amps. Since I don't want to damage the torch, can anyone recommend an upgrade whether it be Weldcraft or CK that would give me that extra 50 amps without going water cooled? I'll need the extra amps for AC Aluminum. It's impractical and penny unwise for me to buy a water cooler. By the way, this is one nice machine. Reply:I use the WP-26 air cooled.  It's rated to 200 amps DC and 150 amps AC, but I've run it at 200 amps on AC and it takes it about 30-45 minutes to get hot.It won't fit on your cable, so you have to buy the package - I love the flex head styleDave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:CK Torches are a bit bulkier at the head (teflon insulator is thicker) but have great power handling capacity, especially for AC.Based on your machine's (20%) duty cycle at 200 amps, a CK-17 would probably be fine.  You could go to a CK Trimline 210 but it would be overkill.  In any event, spring for the superflex cable, and maybe also the flex-head option.
Reply:^cope - cool adapter, had not seen one of those.  I wonder about cable current capacity though?^jakeru - I did not think about his lower duty cycle - my machine is still running 100% at 200 amps.Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:Leaning towards the WP-26 with the eBay adapter. Thanks guys. I'll give this thread some more time before I make the decision.Miller Bobcat 250Syncrowave  200Millermatic 252Spoolmatic 30ASpectrum 625 X-TremeMaxstar 150SVictor O/A torchesDewalt angle grindersWelded on/off for over 40 years.
Reply:Given the duty cycle of a Sync 200 I wouldn't bother looking for a bigger aircooled torch.  I bet a 17 series torch will handle everything that TIG can muster.  Save the $ for fancy filler rod.Syncrowave 300Maxtron 450, S-52E, 30A

Reply:Originally Posted by copeDave, I suspect they both have the same current capacity, but in reality, most people won't run up against the high end any way.
