I am a bit confused. Saw this on CL http://reading.craigslist.org/tls/3722073558.html and was wondering if this is a 3 phase unit which you can switch to single phase. It's hard to tell going by the ad. Looks like it lived a rough life and probably can't test it to see it works. You know the old saying...""if it sounds too good to be true....blal blah blah." Just looking for advice from the experts. I'd like to have a bigger mig unit to use at my dad's shop.
Reply:It's a single phase 460/230unit. It looks like it might need a new gun.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
Reply:I seen the slightly newer version of that dip-pak, looked a little closer to the ESAB. It was on CL for $175 about 6 months ago. Reply:For a buck and a half I would be all over that if it was closer.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:I just got off the phone with the guy and he said that it will turn on and the fan will run, but nothing happens when he pulls the trigger. I am on the fence because I know parts are pretty hard to come by and I'm no expert on fixing these things. I saw another (exact same) one on CL which is a little closer, and can be ran and tested. It's a little more ($450 obo), but it would probably be better to get it since I know it works.
Reply:I bet it is something foolish like a bad trigger in the gun or dirty contacts, not much to go wrong in those old machines.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ." |
